JUST IN: Ayuba Was Killed in Borno State By Boko Haram, He Told Me That He Would Not Make It Alive-Liyatu

According to a report by TheCable on Saturday, 13 June, 2026, Ayuba Liyatu, a 56-year-old resident of Maiduguri, has recounted the final conversation she had with her husband, a military officer identified as Ayuba, before he was killed during operations against Boko Haram insurgents in Borno State.

Liyatu shared the emotional account in an interview with TheCable while reflecting on the personal losses her family suffered as a result of the prolonged insurgency in northeastern Nigeria. Her husband was among security personnel deployed to combat terrorist activities in the region, which has remained a focal point of military operations for more than a decade.

Speaking about the events leading up to his death, Liyatu said her husband appeared aware of the dangers he faced on the battlefield and had expressed fears that he might not survive. According to her, his words would later prove prophetic.

“Ayuba was killed in Borno state by Boko Haram. He told me that he would not make it out alive,” she said.

The widow described the statement as one that has remained etched in her memory since his death. She said the loss was a devastating blow to the family, particularly given the risks and sacrifices associated with military service in conflict zones.

Borno State has witnessed some of the deadliest attacks linked to Boko Haram and its splinter groups, with soldiers frequently confronting insurgents in remote communities and along major security corridors.
