Hatred, Division Threatening Nigeria – Baba-Ahmed

The National Chairman of the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP), Hakeem Baba-Ahmed, has expressed concern over what he described as growing hatred and division in Nigeria.

Naija News reports that Baba-Ahmed, a former aide to President Bola Tinubu, spoke on Sunday in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria in Abuja.

He blamed the development on poor leadership and the exploitation of ethnic and religious differences by politicians.

The PRP chairman said many political actors deliberately deepen divisions among citizens to gain political advantage and retain power.

According to him, the atmosphere of distrust has weakened national unity and diverted attention from the real issues affecting the country.

He listed insecurity, poverty, unemployment and declining public services as problems confronting Nigerians, regardless of ethnicity, religion or region.

“Bandits, kidnappers and criminals do not ask victims about their tribes, language or religion before attacking them,” he said.

Baba-Ahmed said Nigeria’s challenges were largely caused by the failure of leadership and institutions, not differences among citizens.

He insisted that Nigerians shared more common interests than divisions and called for a renewed commitment to national unity.

The PRP chairman urged leaders to stop exploiting identity politics and focus on policies that would improve the lives of ordinary Nigerians.

Baba-Ahmed said rebuilding public trust and strengthening institutions would reduce tension and promote national cohesion.

“Rebuilding trust in government and strengthening institutions will go a long way in reducing tensions and fostering national cohesion.

“We need leadership that unites Nigerians and addresses the issues that affect everyone, irrespective of where they come from,” he added.
