Governor Diri Urges Ijaw Unity at Boro Day Commemoration in Bayelsa

Bayelsa State Governor, Senator Douye Diri, has called on Ijaw people across Nigeria to put aside political and communal differences and work together for the collective development of the Ijaw nation.

Represented by his deputy, Dr. Peter Akpe, the governor made the appeal during the Boro Day wreath-laying ceremony held at the Ijaw Heroes Memorial Park in Yenagoa in honour of late Major Isaac Jasper Adaka Boro

Diri said unity remained the greatest tribute to Boro’s legacy, urging Ijaw communities to promote peace and cooperation.“The greatest tribute we can pay to Major Adaka Boro is not in the wreaths we lay or the speeches we deliver, but in the unity we forge, the peace we keep, and the prosperity we build,” he said .

The governor described Bayelsa State as part of the legacy of Boro’s struggle for the Niger Delta and commended Ijaw youths for conducting a peaceful procession during the event.

He also advised young people to avoid violence and embrace education and skills acquisition. In his remarks, Commissioner for Ijaw National Affairs, Chief Godspower Oporomor, said the annual event was aimed at preserving Boro’s legacy and inspiring younger generations.

Chairman of the Conference of Ijaw Traditional Rulers and Elders, King Bubaraye Dakolo, also called for stronger unity among Ijaw people.The ceremony featured wreath laying by government officials, traditional rulers, the Boro family, and youth groups.
