Gen Rabe Died In Such Manner, Yet We’ve Not Seen The Kind Of Outrage You’d Expect In The North -Dahiru

During an interview on Nigeria Info FM on Monday, June 15, 2026, Majeed Dahiru, a political analyst, reacted to the death of retired Major General Rabe Abubakar, expressing concern over what he described as the muted reaction from northern leaders and groups following the former military officer’s death.

Dahiru spoke about the circumstances surrounding the death of the retired general, who reportedly died while in captivity after being abducted by bandits. He argued that the incident should have generated stronger reactions across Northern Nigeria, given the stature of the deceased and the broader security implications of the tragedy.

The political analyst questioned what he viewed as the limited public response from influential individuals, socio-cultural organizations, and religious groups in the region, stating that the incident should have prompted deeper reflection on the worsening security situation.

According to him, “It’s unfortunate, and let me say this very seriously: for somebody of General Rabe’s status to have died in the way he died, the Katsina state government described his death as a lot of natural causes. We’ve not seen the level of outrage you’re supposed to see from the northern part of this country.

Dahiru argued that the death of a retired senior military officer under such circumstances should serve as a wake-up call for leaders and stakeholders in the region. He stated that stronger public engagement and collective action were needed to address the security challenges confronting communities across Northern Nigeria.

He further maintained that the response to the incident should go beyond expressions of sympathy and lead to a reassessment of existing approaches to insecurity. According to him, the situation demands greater urgency from political leaders, community organizations, and other influential figures if meaningful progress is to be achieved in tackling the threat posed by banditry and related crimes.
