Fubara working, not campaigning” — Aide counters Wike

The Rivers State Government has denied claims by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, that Governor Siminalayi Fubara is ignoring his duties to focus on getting a second term.

Wike had accused Fubara of not paying attention to governance and failing to present a budget to the Rivers State House of Assembly.

These accusations have raised concerns that the peace agreement arranged by the President between Wike and Fubara may be falling apart.

Reports show that the State House of Assembly has not met for a long time. There are also rumours that this delay is to avoid screening new commissioner nominees sent by the governor after some earlier ones were rejected.

In response, the governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Onwuka Nzeshi, said Fubara is focused on governing the state. He said the governor has been inspecting important projects to make sure they are completed on time and benefit the people.

Nzeshi explained that recently, Fubara visited ongoing projects like the Creek Road Market and the Commissioners’ Quarters to check their progress.

He also said the current administration inherited 12 major road projects, and nine of them are already more than 70 percent completed. These include the Trans-Kalabari Road Phase 1 and the Port Harcourt Ring Road.

According to him, these achievements show that the governor is working hard and committed to developing the state.

Nzeshi urged the public to ignore claims that try to damage the governor’s image, adding that Fubara remains focused on policies and projects that will improve Rivers State.
