PDP faction criticises Wike, apologises to Nigerians

A group within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) that supports Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has criticised the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, over comments he made during a recent media appearance.

In a statement released on Wednesday and signed by its National Publicity Secretary, Ini Ememobong, the group described Wike’s remarks as careless and inappropriate. It accused him of attacking respected Nigerians without showing restraint.

The group also said the media appearance was not proper, adding that it appeared to be funded with public resources and lacked respect and seriousness.

Instead of responding directly to Wike’s claims, the group apologised to Nigerians for previously supporting him in becoming governor and later a minister.

According to the statement, Wike’s behaviour and comments have now become embarrassing at the national level.

The group also advised anyone who feels defamed by the minister to take legal action, stressing that no one is above the law.

On party matters, the faction rejected claims about a “National Leader” position in the PDP, saying such a role does not exist in the party’s constitution.

It added that party activities, such as the sale of nomination forms and preparations for primaries and a national convention, will continue as planned.

The group suggested that Wike’s recent comments may be due to frustration over his inability to control the direction of the party, especially regarding the selection of its presidential candidate.

It also addressed legal issues mentioned by Wike, saying it is waiting for official court documents and challenged him and his allies to explain the situation publicly.
