Former Delta Governor Ifeanyi Okowa visits EFCC Lagos office
Former Delta State Governor, Ifeanyi Okowa, visited the Lagos office of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on Awolowo Road, Ikoyi, as part of an ongoing investigation into allegations involving the diversion of approximately ₦1.3 trillion.
Although the EFCC did not officially comment on the visit, a source within the commission said Okowa is being investigated over the alleged diversion of 13 percent derivation funds allocated to Delta State from the Federation Account between 2015 and 2023, the period during which he served as governor.
The former governor was previously arrested and questioned by EFCC operatives in November 2024 at the commission’s Port Harcourt zonal office in connection with the same allegations. According to the source, Okowa’s latest visit to the Lagos office was related to a request for the release of his international passport, which he reportedly needs to travel abroad for medical treatment.
As of the time of reporting, it was unclear whether the EFCC had approved the request. The investigation remains ongoing, and the anti-graft agency has yet to make an official statement regarding the outcome of Okowa’s visit or the status of the allegations against him.
