FG Moves to Transform Kaduna Transport System with Light Rail Project

The federal government has intensified plans to deliver a modern light rail system in Kaduna State, with contractors expected to commence work within the next month.

The project, approved by President Bola Tinubu, is expected to improve urban mobility, boost economic activities, and strengthen Kaduna’s position as a major commercial hub in Northern Nigeria.

The project, one of three approved for Kaduna, Kano, and Lagos states, is designed to provide an efficient mass transit solution for the growing population of Kaduna metropolis.

Speaking during a meeting with Kaduna State Government officials, the Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Transportation, Engineer Olufunsho Adebiyi, said technical assessments of the proposed routes had been completed and preparations were underway for full project mobilisation.

Governor Uba Sani described the project as a transformative intervention that aligns with the state’s vision of developing an efficient and integrated transportation system.

The rail system will feature two major corridors. The Red Line will run from Rigachikun to Sabon Tasha through key commercial districts, while the Yellow Line will connect Millennium City to the Rigasa Railway Station, creating an integrated urban transport network.

Officials said all necessary processes were being finalised to ensure contractors move to the site within the next month.
