Edo Government Orders Reopening of Schools After Security Review

The Edo State Government has directed the reopening of schools that were previously shut down over security concerns in parts of the state.

The decision comes days after authorities ordered the temporary closure of affected schools following intelligence reports suggesting potential security threats in some communities within Edo North Senatorial District.

In a new directive issued by the Ministry of Education, the Permanent Secretary, Mrs. Enodolomwanyi Otamere, announced that all schools affected by the earlier closure are to resume normal academic activities from June 15, 2026.

According to the ministry, the decision to reopen the schools followed a detailed assessment of the security situation by the state government in collaboration with security agencies and other relevant stakeholders.

Otamere explained that the review indicated significant improvements in the security environment, making it possible for students, teachers and school administrators to safely return to classrooms.

She noted that the government remains committed to safeguarding the lives of learners and education workers while ensuring that academic activities continue without unnecessary disruption.

The Permanent Secretary urged school authorities to comply with all security guidelines issued by the government and maintain close communication with local security agencies to promptly report any suspicious activities.

She also reassured parents and guardians that the state government would continue to monitor developments across the affected areas and take appropriate measures whenever necessary to protect educational institutions.
