Double win for NiMet as FG approves new salary structure, condition of service
The federal government has approved a new salary structure and an updated, enhanced Condition of Service for workers of the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet).
The approvals are contained in a letter, with reference No. 58957/S.2/T1/40, written by the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF) and addressed to the Chairman, National Salaries, Incomes and Wages Commission.
Dated 29th April, 2026, the approval, which was signed by Dr. Ibrahim Abubakar Kana, Permanent Secretary, General Service, on behalf of the SGF, was titled- “Re-Request for Salary Relativity Implementation in the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet).”
The letter reads- “I am directed to refer to your letter Ref. No. SWC/S/04/S.227/T/52, dated 23rd March, 2026, on the above subject and to convey that the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, has approved the recommended consolidated salary structure for NiMet with an effective date of June 1, 2026. (a copy of the approved salary structure is attached).
“I am to further inform you that approval was also granted for the proposed NiMet’s Staff’s Condition of Service, a copy which is attached as appendix 11.
“Please, accept the regards of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation,” the letter concluded.
Reacting to the development, a staff of NiMet who spoke on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to speak on the matter, commended the management of the organization, under the leadership of Professor Charles Anosike for his hard work, commitment and dedication to the welfare of NiMet workers, and described the approval of a new salary structure and updated condition of service as giant strides and milestones that would have lasting impact in the lives of NiMet staff.
