Davido shares interesting story of how he met and used the female video vixen for his popular hit, Aye

Afrobeats star Davido has shared the behind-the-scenes story of how the lead female vixen in the music video for his 2014 hit song “Aye” ended up landing the role by chance.

Speaking during an interview with Capital Xtra, the award-winning singer recalled that the woman originally selected to feature as the lead in the video had to pull out at the last minute due to contractual obligations.

According to Davido, preparations for the shoot were already underway when the model’s manager informed his team that she could no longer participate because she was competing in a beauty pageant.

“The girl who was meant to be the lead was in a pageant. We were about to shoot when her manager called to say the pageant organizers had reminded them she was under contract, so we couldn’t use her.”

Faced with the unexpected setback, Davido said his team quickly found a replacement by casting the model’s makeup artist as the lead female character in the video.

“We ended up using her makeup artist and when the music video blew up, the two of them fell out,” he said.

However, after the interview gained attention on social media, Davido returned to clarify the situation, explaining that the two women never actually had a falling out.

The singer left a comment correcting his earlier statement, noting that despite what he initially said during the interview, the former pageant contestant and her makeup artist remained on good terms.

Released 12 years ago, “Aye” became one of Davido’s biggest early hits, with its music video enjoying widespread popularity and remaining one of the singer’s most memorable visuals.
