CSOs back reintegration of ex-terrorists, call for strict monitoring

Leader of the civil Society Organisations (CSOs) has expressed support for the reintegration of former terrorists into society under the military’s Operation Safe Corridor programme.

In their position, the groups argued that many individuals involved in violent activities were once ordinary citizens who became radicalised due to difficult circumstances.

He maintained that reintegration offers a pathway for rehabilitation and peaceful coexistence.

However, the CSOs stressed that such efforts must be accompanied by strong monitoring systems to track movements and ensure that reintegrated individuals do not return to violence.

They added that those involved remain citizens with a stake in the country’s future and should be given an opportunity to rebuild their lives, provided safeguards are in place.

He said …

“The truth is that the t£rr0rists are one of us before they became confused because of situations and circumstances around us. It is very okay for them to be reintegrated into the society.

However, there is need for adequate monitoring of their movements and activities. They have no other home apart from this Nigeria and they have to equally move on with their compatriots. The only thing is monitoring that they don’t deviate if they are brought back into the society….”
