Court orders remand of Abronye for refusing to surrender passport

An Accra High Court has ordered the remand of Bono Regional New Patriotic Party (NPP) Chairman, Kwame Baffoe, popularly known as Abronye DC, into police custody after he allegedly failed to comply with a key bail condition.

According to reports, the court revoked his bail after finding that he had not surrendered his passport as required under the terms of his release.

Abronye DC was not present in court when the ruling was delivered.

The outspoken politician is currently standing trial on one count of publication of false news and one count of offensive conduct conducive to the breach of the peace.

The charges are linked to alleged false statements he is said to have made about a Circuit Court judge.

Abronye was previously remanded after being arraigned before the court but was later granted bail under specific conditions.

One of those conditions required him to deposit his passport with the court.

However, reports indicate that he failed to comply with that directive, leading the court to revoke his bail and order that he be returned to police custody.

The latest development comes days after Abronye publicly questioned an earlier court decision regarding his bail conditions.

Meanwhile, the substantive criminal case remains before the Circuit Court, where proceedings on the false publication charges are still ongoing.

The court is expected to continue hearing the matter as investigations and legal proceedings progress.
