Court Grants ‘Mmuo Mmili Afuluanya’ ₦50 Million Bail With Strict Conditions
A High Court in Anambra State has granted bail to Nnewi-based native doctor, Ikechukwu JohnPaul Ezenagu, popularly known as “Mmuo Mmili Afuluanya,” as he continues to face prosecution over alleged violations of state security laws.
The bail was granted by Justice Jude Obiora, who fixed the bail sum at ₦50 million with one surety.
As part of the conditions, the defendant is required to deposit the title documents of his residence with the court. The property would be forfeited should he fail to appear for trial or violate the terms of his bail.
The court also issued an order restraining him from granting interviews or speaking to the press while the case remains before the court.
Speaking after the proceedings, one of the defendant’s lawyers, Kingsley Awuka, expressed satisfaction with the ruling, stating that the bail conditions were reasonable and within his client’s capacity to meet.
According to him, the defence team is confident that justice will prevail as the trial progresses.
The prosecution is being led by Anambra State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Tobechukwu Nweke, SAN.
Ezenagu is facing charges that reportedly include violations of provisions of the Anambra Homeland Security Law.
Following the bail ruling, the court adjourned the matter until July 3 for further hearing.
