Court Grants DJ Chicken ₦1m Bail In Seyi Tinubu Threat Case

Popular content creator Ademola Abiodun , widely known as DJ Chicken, has been remanded at the Kirikiri Correctional Centre . This decision follows his arraignment before a Lagos Magistrate’s Court over allegations that he threatened the life of Seyi Tinubu, the son of Nigeria’s President Bola Tinubu, during a viral video shared on social media.

The prosecution informed the court that the criminal charges arose from footage posted across the entertainer’s social media accounts. In the video, which circulated online, the defendant allegedly directed explicit death threats toward Seyi Tinubu while sharing his commentary regarding the upcoming 2027 presidential election.

According to law enforcement and state prosecutors, the statements made by DJ Chicken legally constitute a direct threat to life. They stated that his actions directly violate the Cybercrime (Prohibition, Prevention, etc.) Act of 2015 as well as the established Criminal Law of Lagos State.

Following public outrage, DJ Chicken released another video retracting the remarks, insisting they were made as a joke to attract attention and that he had no intention of harming Seyi Tinubu. Despite the apology, the state proceeded with the prosecution.

The first charge alleges that he posted a video threatening to kill Seyi Tinubu, while the second accuses him of transmitting a grossly offensive and menacing message through a computer network in violation of the Cybercrime Act. The third charge alleges that his actions were likely to cause a breach of peace and were intended to intimidate or embarrass the complainant.

DJ Chicken pleaded not guilty to all the charges.
The court granted him bail in the sum of ₦1 million with two sureties in like sum. One surety must be a government employee, while the other must be a recognised community leader with landed property in Lagos State. Both sureties are required to provide three years’ tax clearance, LASRRA identification, National Identification Number (NIN) and recent utility bills. The court also directed that one of the sureties must be a blood relative of the defendant.

Pending the fulfilment of the bail conditions, Magistrate Onamusi ordered that DJ Chicken be remanded at the Kirikiri Correctional Centre.
