The presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) for the 2027 election, Peter Obi, has welcomed the successful rescue of pupils and teachers abducted in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State, describing their safe return as a development worthy of national thanksgiving.

Naijapunchnews recalls that the Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, announced the rescue on Friday through a post on his official 𝕏 account, confirming that the victims had regained their freedom after spending 56 days in captivity.

Reacting in a statement titled “The Children’s Safe Return Is Worthy of Thanksgiving,” which he shared on his 𝕏 handle on Saturday, Obi expressed joy over the successful operation and thanked everyone who contributed to securing the release of the victims.

The former Anambra State governor particularly commended members of the security agencies and others who worked behind the scenes, acknowledging their dedication and sacrifices in ensuring the pupils and teachers returned home safely.

According to Obi, the rescue is a welcome relief for the affected families and the nation, but it also highlights the urgent need for stronger measures to tackle insecurity and protect schoolchildren across the country.
