Chairman Wontumi Likely To Face More Jail Term — Here’s More
The State has filed an amended charge sheet against former NPP Ashanti Regional Chairman Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi, in the ongoing GH¢30 million Exim Bank case.
The Accra High Court on Tuesday, September 22, adjourned the case to October 13, 2026, when Wontumi and the other accused persons are expected to have their pleas taken afresh.
The prosecution asked the court to withdraw the earlier charge sheet filed in May and replace it with the new one.
The amended charge sheet contains five counts, including defrauding by false pretence, two counts of uttering a forged document, money laundering and intentionally causing financial loss to a public body.
One of the amendments specifies that the allegedly forged document was a pro-forma invoice belonging to EPSONS Ghana Limited. The prosecution alleges that the document was used in 2017 to obtain GH¢4 million from Exim Bank.
The case also involves Thomas Antwi-Boasiako, who is reportedly at large, and Wontumi Farms Limited. Prosecutors allege that about GH¢14.3 million was obtained from Exim Bank in 2018 and that the bank subsequently suffered an estimated GH¢30 million loss between 2018 and 2022.
Wontumi’s lawyers requested more time to study the fresh charges after receiving them shortly before the hearing.
The court consequently adjourned the matter to October 13 at 10:30 a.m., when the new charges are expected to be substituted and the accused persons’ pleas retaken.
