Cause of death of Saidi Balogun’s daughter finally revealed

The cause of death of Zeenat Balogun, daughter of Nollywood actor Saidi Balogun, has finally been revealed nearly two years after her passing.

Zeenat, the actor’s first child from his previous marriage to Sherifat, died in October 2024, but details surrounding her death were not made public at the time.

The revelation came in a tribute video shared on Instagram by Khalid Balogun, one of Saidi Balogun’s children, as family and friends celebrated Zeenat’s posthumous birthday.

In the video, Jamal Balogun disclosed that his late sister died from complications arising from sickle cell disease.

According to him, Zeenat battled the condition with remarkable courage and never allowed it to define her life.

“Zeenat Balogun died from complications related to sickle cell disease. She was a warrior who remained strong even in her moments of pain. She endured it with humility and strength, and it never defined any aspect of her life,” he said.

Jamal described his sister as a cheerful and positive person who continued to inspire those around her despite frequent hospital visits.

“She was a happy person. Even when she was admitted to the hospital, she remained jovial with everyone around her and always left a positive impact on those she met,” he added.

In a statement accompanying the video, the Balogun family said the tribute was released to mark Zeenat’s posthumous birthday and commemorate World Sickle Cell Day.

The family said the initiative was aimed at honouring her memory, raising awareness about sickle cell disease and celebrating individuals living with the condition.

“Though her journey was marked by the challenges of Sickle Cell Anemia, she faced every battle with remarkable strength, courage and grace, leaving behind memories that continue to inspire us every day,” the statement read.

The family added that while Zeenat was no longer physically present, her love, light and legacy would remain alive in their hearts.

The late Zeenat Balogun died at the age of 27.
