The assassination of the Lagos State Organising Secretary of the National Union of Road Transport Workers, Toba Ajiboye, popularly known as Toba Ijaya, has renewed concerns over the violent undercurrents of motor park politics in Lagos.

Reacting to the incident, the Chairman of Fadeyi Motor Park, Alhaji Bariu Ibrahim, popularly known as Ofelohun, rejected claims that Ajiboye met the kind of fate many expected because of his past reputation. He maintained that the late transport union leader had abandoned violence and embraced peace before his death.

Ibrahim told Saturday PUNCH that Ajiboye deliberately refused to move about with armed escorts because he believed he had no enemies.

“Now that he has said fighting should stop and nobody should fight again, you have now killed him. He does not have bad things in his hand. If not, they would not have been able to kill him.

“We told him to use security, but he refused. He said he did not do anything to anybody. Why should he be afraid?”

He further described Ajiboye as a generous man, saying he regularly provided meals for hundreds of people during Ramadan, donated rams for Eid-el-Kabir celebrations and was always willing to assist those who sought his help.See more
