Public Affairs Analyst Dayo Akintobo has raised concerns over the effectiveness of government-led rescue operations following the recent abduction of students in Oyo State.

Akintobo made the remarks during an interview on Vanguard News TV on Tuesday, June 2, 2026, while discussing the ongoing response to the school kidnapping that has sparked widespread public concern among parents, education stakeholders, and residents of affected communities.

He questioned the ability of security agencies to successfully execute rescue missions, suggesting that authorities may already have intelligence on the location of the abductors but have struggled to act decisively on it.

According to him, attempts to rescue the victims have reportedly been made but have not succeeded. He expressed concern that such setbacks raise broader questions about operational capacity and preparedness in handling hostage situations.

Quoting him directly, Akintobo said: “Government obviously know where these people are, but they have tried twice to execute rescue effort and failed.”

His comments come amid growing anxiety over repeated kidnappings targeting schools and rural communities across Nigeria, with many calling for stronger security presence around educational institutions and improved intelligence-driven policing.

Akintobo further argued that while intelligence gathering is an important part of security operations, the ability to convert such intelligence into successful field action remains a major challenge for security agencies.
