BREAKING: Osi Balogun of Ibadanland, Oba Isioye-Dada is Dead

The Osi Balogun of Ibadanland, Oba Olubunmi Isioye-Dada, has passed away, bringing to an end a distinguished period of service within the traditional leadership structure of Ibadanland.

A palace source, who confirmed the development on Friday, disclosed that the respected monarch died at his residence in Ibadan after a brief illness.

According to the source, news of the monarch’s passing quickly spread among members of the traditional institution, prompting a delegation of Omo Oye to proceed to his residence in line with customary practices.

Until his death, Oba Isioye-Dada held the highly revered title of Osi Balogun of Ibadanland, a prominent position within the Balogun line of the unique Ibadan traditional chieftaincy system. The title places its holder among the senior chiefs who play significant roles in the administration and cultural affairs of the ancient city.

His passing is expected to set in motion a series of succession-related promotions within the Balogun hierarchy, as prescribed by the long-established Ibadan traditional system. The city’s chieftaincy structure operates through a carefully organised ladder of progression, where vacancies created by death or advancement often result in multiple promotions among chiefs.

Among those expected to benefit from the anticipated succession adjustments is APC governorship aspirant and senator, Sharafadeen Ali.

Under the traditional arrangement, and subject to the approval of the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Rashidi Ladoja, Senator Ali is expected to move from his current position as Ekaarun Balogun to Ekerin Balogun of Ibadanland.

Also expected to advance in rank is Oba Akeem Mobolaji Adewoyin, who is projected to rise from the position of Ekerin Balogun to Asipa Balogun as the succession process progresses.

The death of Oba Isioye-Dada marks another significant moment in Ibadan’s traditional history, as the city prepares for the customary transitions that accompany changes within its revered chieftaincy system.
