BREAKING: Obi Says Nigerians In South Africa Rejected Return Offer Despite Provided Facilities

Former Anambra State Governor and Labour Party leader, Peter Obi, has shared details of his recent visit to South Africa, where he met Nigerians facing xenophobic attacks and hardship.

In a video shared by Advocacy for Good Governance, speaking at an event organised by the NDC, Obi said he held discussions with three South African ministers who are also leaders of political parties. According to him, the talks focused on improving the relationship between South Africans and other African nationals living in the country.

Obi said he also visited affected Nigerians to understand their struggles and appreciate those supporting them during the difficult period. He explained that efforts were made to help some Nigerians return home by providing facilities and support for their journey back to Nigeria.

However, he said many of them refused the offer because they believed conditions in Nigeria were even worse than what they were facing abroad. According to Obi, several of them said they would rather remain in South Africa despite the dangers and hardship.

He described the situation as painful and said it showed how serious Nigeria’s challenges have become. Obi stressed that if things were working properly in Nigeria, many citizens would not feel forced to leave the country in search of better opportunities.

In his words, “We provided facilities for them to come back. But most of them told me that they would rather die there than come back because it’s the same thing. It’s even worse at home.”
