In a statement posted on his official X handle on Saturday, July 20, 2026, Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Policy Communication, Daniel Bwala, has emphasized the need for greater accountability at the state and local government levels, arguing that the President cannot directly supervise governors in a federal system of government.
According to him, Nigeria’s federal structure clearly defines the roles of the President, governors, state legislatures, and local government authorities, making it necessary for citizens and lawmakers to hold public officials accountable within their respective jurisdictions.
“The president is not a prefect to the governors. That is why I talk about federalism. They have State Houses of Assembly. At the centre, whatever the president provides for implementation goes through ministers and the National Assembly, which exercise oversight,” Bwala stated.......>>
