Former Kogi State governorship candidate and outspoken politician Dino Melaye has sparked fresh political tension after making a controversial statement about Nigeria’s 2027 presidential election and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

Speaking under the platform of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Melaye warned that any alleged attempt by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to manipulate the upcoming election could trigger serious national resistance and instability.

His comments were circulated following a report shared on the official X handle of DAILY POST on Saturday, June 20, 2026, where he openly expressed fear over what he believes could happen during the next general election cycle.

Melaye claimed that there is a possibility of political tension if electoral processes are not handled fairly, suggesting that attempts to influence or “rig” the election would not go unchallenged. According to him, such actions could lead to widespread pushback from opposition forces and citizens who would not accept a compromised outcome.

In his words, he warned that the situation could become so intense that it might plunge the country into crisis, insisting that resistance would be firm and uncompromising.

He further added that Nigeria could even end up with a president who would be forced out or “run away,” emphasizing that political stakeholders would not remain silent if they believe the electoral process is being undermined.
