BREAKING: Ex-Senate President Pius Anyim Explains Why He Accepted Renewed Hope National Grand Patron Position

According to report by Vanguard on Sunday, June 21, 2026, former Senate President, Anyim Pius Anyim, has given reasons for accepting the position of National Grand Patron of the Renewed Hope for Greater Nigeria (RHGN), stating that the appointment offers him an opportunity to help deepen public understanding of the current federal administration’s policies, especially within the South East region.

Anyim explained that his involvement would allow him to sensitize Nigerians about what he described as the less obvious but significant effects of President Bola Tinubu’s government.

According to him, although the administration faced initial economic difficulties following the introduction of key reforms, several of its programmes are already beginning to show positive direction and long-term promise for national development.

He pointed out the Nigeria Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) as one of the most impactful initiatives so far, noting that it has opened wider access to higher education for students from financially constrained backgrounds.

He said such interventions demonstrate the administration’s intention to improve social mobility and invest in human capital.

The National Convener of RHGN, Hon. Calistus Anyanwu, also commented on the development, explaining that the group has already begun extensive grassroots mobilisation across the South East.

He said the organisation has established structures down to the ward level, involving community leaders, youth organisations, political actors, and other stakeholders to ensure broad outreach.

Anyanwu acknowledged that the early phase of the administration’s economic reforms came with hardship for many Nigerians.

However, he maintained that these reforms were necessary adjustments aimed at stabilising the economy, adding that early indicators now suggest gradual improvement and growing public confidence.

He further described the inclusion of Chief Longers Anyanwu as a strategic move, noting that his strong grassroots connections would complement Anyim’s national influence.

While Anyim is expected to provide leadership visibility and credibility at the national level, Chief Longers is tasked with strengthening mobilisation efforts and deepening engagement within local communities across the region.
