Retired Nigerian Air Force officer, Group Captain Sodiq Shehu, has urged the Federal Government to accelerate military recruitment as part of efforts to address the country’s worsening security challenges, recalling campaign statements made by President Bola Tinubu on expanding the armed forces.
Shehu made the remarks during an interview on Channels Television, on Thursday, 4 June, 2026, while discussing strategies for combating insurgency, banditry and other forms of insecurity across Nigeria.
The retired military officer expressed concern that proposals discussed during the 2023 election campaign regarding mass recruitment into the armed forces have not been implemented.
