Daniel Bwala, a media aide to President Bola Tinubu, has claimed that the political support that boosted Peter Obi during the 2023 presidential election has largely disappeared.
Speaking during an interview on The PAP Show, Bwala argued that Obi’s 2023 campaign benefited from religious division, particularly debates surrounding the All Progressives Congress (APC)’s Muslim-Muslim presidential ticket. According to him, the issue attracted large crowds to Obi’s campaign but did not present a positive image of politics.
Bwala said that after the 2023 election, many of the prominent individuals who helped build Obi’s popularity were no longer with him. He maintained that most of the people who played key roles in Obi’s rise had since moved on.
He also claimed that Obi’s current political base is different from what it was during the last election. Bwala alleged that Obi sought a party ticket without going through a primary election process, suggesting this reflected a different approach to party politics.
The presidential aide further insisted that Obi no longer poses the same political challenge to the APC as he did in the 2023 election. According to him, the circumstances that shaped the previous election are unlikely to be repeated in future contests.
