Okonkwo made the statement during an appearance on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Thursday, shortly after Atiku announced his appointment as the spokesperson for his presidential campaign. The appointment further cements Okonkwo’s role within the ADC as preparations for future political activities continue.

During the interview, the former Nollywood actor also reflected on his previous political relationship with Peter Obi, whom he once supported. He disclosed that he eventually parted ways with the former Anambra State governor after becoming dissatisfied with his leadership style.

According to Okonkwo, he publicly announced his decision to withdraw his support for Obi in 2024 after concluding that the former Labour Party presidential candidate did not demonstrate the level of decisiveness required to effectively lead Nigeria. He emphasized that his position was made known through interviews and other public engagements rather than behind closed doors.

The ADC chieftain maintained that his views were based on his personal convictions about the qualities a national leader should possess. He added that his opinions were influenced by his longstanding experience as a public affairs analyst, a role he had held years before becoming involved in Obi’s presidential campaign.

Okonkwo stressed that his political commentary has always reflected his independent judgment of national issues and has never been dictated by loyalty to any individual or political figure. He noted that his professional background has consistently shaped his views on governance and leadership.

Speaking further, he recalled informing the public as early as July 2024 that he was no longer representing Obi because he had lost confidence in his ability to make firm and timely decisions.

He said, “As a public affairs analyst that I have been from 2009 before I ever met Peter Obi, I proceeded with my job. You were one of the earliest interviewers that interviewed me in July 2024 when I said I wasn’t speaking for him anymore because he’s not decisive.”
