“Are we really good people?” — TV personality Obiajulu Olabisi questions Nigerians over attacks on struggling businesses
TV personality Obiajulu Olabisi has questioned the behaviour of some Nigerians, asking whether the country is truly made up of kind and compassionate people.
In a video, Olabisi said she has spent years reflecting on how Nigerians treat one another and whether the values often associated with the country match reality.
According to her, the issue goes beyond government and leadership, extending to how ordinary citizens treat neighbours, employees, friends, children and fellow business owners.
She expressed concern over reports that some individuals allegedly create WhatsApp groups to target successful businesses, threatening to mass-report their social media pages unless they are paid.
According to her, some of these groups repeatedly report business pages until they are taken down, allegedly using the tactic to extort money from business owners.
Olabisi said the trend is particularly troubling at a time when many businesses are already struggling due to inflation, low purchasing power, rising operating costs and other economic challenges.
She noted that while many businesses may appear successful on social media, a lot of owners are simply trying to keep their companies afloat and pay salaries.
Questioning the motives behind such actions, she wondered why anyone would choose to deliberately target people trying to earn a living despite the country’s current economic realities.
“Are we really good people or are we a wicked lot?” she asked.
