APC Did Not Promise Nigerians Miracles – Akpabio
Senate President Godswill Akpabio has stated that the incumbent government is executing its long-term approach to governance.
He asserted that the All Progressives Congress (APC) administration never promised Nigerians miracles.
Naija News reports that he stated this at the launch of a new seven-kilometre road and bridge in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) on Friday.
Akpabio said the government pledged to deliver ‘structural, calculated and deliberate progress’ through President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
His remark comes at a time when many Nigerians are complaining over the high cost of living, which has been largely caused by the removal of the fuel subsidy and other recent government policies.
The Senate President claimed that the administration is executing its long-term approach to governance.
“When we came into office, we did not promise you miracles that would appear from thin air. We promised structural, calculated and deliberate progress.
“We promised a Renewed Hope Agenda that will touch the lives of every Nigerian citizen, not just in economic statistics but in the reality of their daily struggles,” he said.
Meanwhile, Akpabio, has described Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, as a miracle worker.
Naija News reports that Akpabio, who represented President Bola Tinubu, made the statement on Thursday during the commissioning of the newly constructed Airport Road (Bill Clinton Drive) to Tungan Madaki Community as part of projects to mark the current administration’s third year in office.
Akpabio expressed appreciation to Tinubu for bringing Wike to Abuja, noting that it was the first time in Nigeria’s history that a minister had scheduled a commissioning for 30 days in a month.
The Senate President also expressed confidence that the newly constructed road would remain pothole-free for 40 years.
He said, “The Minister of the FCT, the miracle worker and Mr project, as you were speaking I felt a little bit emotional so because of that I would stick to Mr President’s address.
“I also come from a community so I know what it means to stay for 37 or 40 years without a road and coincidentally the company that constructed this road worked with me for eight years of my administration as a governor.
“One of the roads that they did for me was commissioned about 15 years ago and till today, there is no pot hole. So when I came and saw that they handled this road, I was very sure that particularly with the terrain in the FCT, we are looking at 25 years without a pothole.
“So I want to commend you for using very good construction companies.
“I’m here to represent the President of Nigeria, Bola Tinubu, I think they should call him Mr deliverer, a man who delivers and doesn’t matter if they criticize him he continues to deliver.
“Mr project, it doesn’t matter if they like or hate you, you continue to deliver.
“I knew that you would carry the work you did from Rivers State to the FCT, but they were skeptical. A lot of people did not know that the former governor of Rivers State could come here and do the kind of miracle you are doing on a daily basis.
“This is the first time in the history of Nigeria that a minister would fix commissioning for 30 days in a month. I appreciate Tinubu who brought this miracle work and Mr project to the FCT, sir I appreciate it and thank you.”
