Angela Okorie Replies Critics Over Burning Outfit Worn to Alexx Ekubo’s Burial

Nollywood actress Angela Okorie has responded to the wave of criticism that followed her revelation that she disposed of the white outfit she wore to the burial of u.her late colleague, Alexx Ekubo.

The actress had earlier disclosed via her Instagram Story that she was advised by her godmother not to keep clothes worn to burial ceremonies. According to her, the outfit she wore to Ekubo’s funeral was handed over to a relative to be burnt in line with that personal belief.

Her comment, however, generated widespread reactions online, with some social media users accusing her of being insensitive and showing disrespect to the memory of the deceased actor and his grieving family.

Reacting to the backlash, Okorie insisted that her decision was based on personal tradition and spiritual guidance, stressing that there was no hidden meaning behind her action.

She clarified that she never kept the outfit after the burial and had it taken to a family member in Owerri for disposal. The actress maintained that her initial post was intended only for people who share or understand such cultural and personal practices.

Expressing frustration over the criticism, Okorie accused some online commentators of deliberately twisting her words and creating unnecessary controversy around a private decision.

She also appealed to the public to be mindful of their comments, noting that Ekubo’s family, friends, and loved ones are still mourning his loss and should not be subjected to further distress.

The actress urged critics to stop misrepresenting her intentions, emphasizing that her action was rooted in personal conviction rather than any form of disrespect toward the late actor.

Her response has since sparked fresh debate online, with some defending her right to observe personal customs, while others continue to question the appropriateness of publicly discussing the burning of clothing worn to a funeral.
