Alleged cybercrime: Justice Crack arraigned, remanded in DSS custody

The federal high court in Abuja has ordered the remand of Chidiebere Justice Mark, ‘Justice Crack’ in the custody of the Department of State Services (DSS) over alleged cybercrime offences.

At Monday’s proceedings before Justice Joyce Abdulmalik, the DSS told the court that the defendant made false claims about personnel of the Nigerian Army, alleging they were poorly fed.

The prosecution said Mark posted a viral video on his X handle (@JusticeCrack), which allegedly contained false information capable of damaging the reputation of the Army, as well as causing a breach of public peace.

He was also accused of committing a felony linked to the publication.

However, the defendant pleaded not guilty to all charges when they were read in open court.

Following his plea, prosecution counsel, E. Orubo, asked the court to fix a date for trial and urged that the defendant be remanded in custody pending the determination of the case.

In response, defence counsel, Marshall Abubakar, made an oral application for bail, which the court declined, directing that a formal bail application must be filed.

Justice Abdulmalik subsequently ordered that the defendant remain in DSS custody and adjourned the case until May 25, 2026, for the commencement of trial and possible hearing of the bail application.
