ADC Declares Amaechi’s Ally, Pidomson Rivers Governorship Candidate

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has declared a former Secretary to the Rivers State Government, Gabriel Pidomson, as its governorship candidate in Rivers State.

Pidomson emerged winner of the party’s governorship primary election after polling 112,068 votes to defeat four other aspirants in the exercise conducted across the 23 local government areas of the state.

The former SSG, who served under the administration of Sir Celestine Omehia, is an Ogoni indigene from Gokana Local Government Area of Rivers State.

He was reportedly the preferred candidate of former Rivers State Governor and ex-Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, ahead of the party’s primary.

The Chairman of the ADC Primary Election Committee in Rivers State, Carol Obaro, announced the result after votes were collated at the party’s secretariat in Port Harcourt on Saturday night.

According to the result declared by the committee, Pidomson secured 112,068 votes to emerge as the winner of the primary.

Sekonte Davies came second with 16,872 votes, while a former Peoples Democratic Party governorship aspirant, Farah Dagogo, polled 2,369 votes to finish third.

Other aspirants in the race included Leloonu Nwibubasa, who scored 1,476 votes; Henry Ogbonna, who polled 546 votes; and Allen Ezekiel Hart, who secured 268 votes.

Naija News reports that declaring Pidomson winner of the primary, Obaro said the former SSG had met the requirements of the party and the constitution.

She said, “Therefore, the highest score here is 112,068 votes for Gabriel Pidomson and, having satisfied the requirements of the ADC and the constitution, scored the highest votes and is hereby declared the winner of the primary election and returned elected as the ADC governorship candidate in Rivers State.

“I, Hon. Carol Obaro, as Chairman of the Primary Election Committee in Rivers State, so declare.”

Pidomson is not new to Rivers politics, having represented Gokana Constituency in the Rivers State House of Assembly between 2003 and 2007.

He later served as Secretary to the Rivers State Government from June to October 2007 during Omehia’s short-lived administration.
