3 Reps Dump APC For ADC And PRP As Defections Hit House After Recess

Three members of the House of Representatives formally abandoned the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) on Wednesday, crossing to either the African Democratic Congress (ADC) or the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP).

The defections came just a day after the National Assembly resumed plenary sessions following the Sallah recess.

The first to make the switch was Rabilu Bala, who represents the Jama’are/Itas-Gadau Federal Constituency of Bauchi State, and who left the APC to join the PRP.

Speaker Tajudeen Abbas read Bala’s letter on the floor of the chamber, in which the lawmaker cited persistent internal disagreements within the APC and expressed his desire to operate on a platform he believes would better serve the interests of his constituents.

Also defecting was Abubakar Zango, representing the Yola North/Yola South/Girei Federal Constituency of Adamawa State, who announced his resignation from the APC and his move to the ADC.

In his letter, Zango described his decision as one driven by conscience and a sense of broader national interest, while pledging to continue carrying out his legislative duties diligently and in line with democratic principles.

Completing the trio of defections, Abdullahi El-Rasheed, who represents the Dukku/Nafada Federal Constituency of Gombe State, also left the APC for the ADC.
