2027 Election victory will go to Tinubu – Segun Sowunmi

A prominent grassroots political leader in Ogun State and promoter of the Alternative Movement, Otunba Segun Sowunmi, has declared that victory in the 2027 presidential election will still go to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

Sowunmi declared his support for the president’s re-election bid and urged Nigerians to support the current administration and its economic reforms.

Sowunmi who spoke during a political mobilisation programme in Abeokuta said Tinubu’s economic policies were moving the country in the right direction, arguing that the availability of funds at the federal, state and local government levels would enable governments to execute development projects.

He said, “I have been screaming and shouting that the economic direction, the policy ideas, and the things that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is doing are in the right direction for the country.”

According to him, the country cannot achieve sustainable development if it constantly changes political leadership and policy direction every four years.

He advocated what he described as the principle of the pendulum, suggesting that political power should rotate between the northern and southern parts of the country to promote national balance and stability.

The grassroots leader also cited countries such as Singapore and Malaysia, arguing that their development was facilitated by political consensus and continuity in implementing policies.

He disclosed that he had directed his supporters to commence mobilisation at the polling-unit level ahead of the 2027 elections.

“I’ve empowered them; I’ve told them to enter the polling units and start the polling-unit work,” he said, adding that he would subsequently embark on local government mobilisation across Ogun Central and extend the campaign structure to other parts of the state.

He further declared that his political structure would be mobilised in Ijebu and other parts of Ogun State to support Tinubu.

The politician dismissed the prospects of other presidential aspirants, saying: “This election is Bola Tinubu’s election to win.”

He appealed particularly to Yoruba voters not to allow other regions to surpass the Southwest in votes for Tinubu in 2027.

According to him, the Southwest must demonstrate strong electoral support for the President, drawing a comparison with the political support former President Olusegun Obasanjo received in the 2003 presidential election.

He said he was not a social-media politician or television politician, insisting that his strength was rooted in grassroots mobilisation.
