Nigerian skit maker and content creator Carter Efe has broken his silence amid the controversy surrounding an academic certificate he claimed was issued by Babcock University.

The comedian addressed the issue on Monday night during a livestream with fellow content creators, where they were seen selling akara on the street.

During the session, Carter Efe briefly responded to reports suggesting that officials of Babcock University were looking for him over questions surrounding the authenticity of the certificate he shared online.

In a playful remark, he joked that anyone from the university attempting to meet him would have to purchase an expensive ticket before gaining access.

“Babcock, I hear say Babcock una dey look for me. Una no go see me. Before una go see me, una go pay ₦100,000 for ticket, and we are coming to Babcock soon,” he said during the livestream.

The controversy began after the skit maker posted what he described as his degree certificate from Babcock University on social media.

According to him, he studied Biochemistry at the institution and graduated with outstanding results. He shared the document in response to critics who had questioned his educational background.

However, the certificate quickly attracted scrutiny from social media users, with many pointing to alleged inconsistencies, particularly the grading classification stated on the document.

As the debate intensified, Babcock University issued a statement distancing itself from the certificate.

The institution stated that it does not recognise the academic classification reflected on the document and cautioned the public against accepting certificates that are not authentic or officially issued by the university.

Despite the university’s response, Carter Efe has yet to provide further clarification regarding the authenticity of the certificate beyond his light-hearted remarks during the livestream.

The controversy has continued to generate widespread reactions online, with supporters and critics debating the claims while awaiting any additional response from the comedian or the university.
