Yaw Dabo Reveals “John Telly” Moment Was About Passing A Message To Jude Bellingham

Ghanaian actor Samuel Yaw Dabo has explained the origins of his viral “John Telly” moment, revealing that his attempt to get John Terry’s attention was actually intended to help him pass a message to Real Madrid and England midfielder Jude Bellingham, whom he had been waiting to hear from.

“The ‘John Telly’ moment happened when I tried to get John Terry’s attention to pass a message to Jude Bellingham that I was waiting for him. The viral moment has since attracted many international brands that want to work with me,” Dabo said.

The original incident occurred after Ghana’s goalless draw with England on June 23, 2026, when Yaw Dabo, already among a crowd seeking interactions with Terry, repeatedly called out to the former Chelsea and England captain before handing him his phone and asking him to record a video message.

John Terry obliged, and the resulting clip, featuring Dabo’s enthusiastic mispronunciation of Terry’s name, went viral, drawing millions of views.

Yaw Dabo’s connection to Bellingham stemmed from an earlier interaction following the same match, during which the England midfielder had expressed willingness to feature in one of Yaw Dabo’s videos.

Yaw Dabo now says the viral attention has translated into commercial interest, with several international brands reaching out for potential collaborations, though he did not disclose which companies have approached him or the nature of any deals under discussion.
