Woman Sparks Reactions After Revealing Husband Monitors Her Weight Six Weeks After Childbirth
A woman has stirred widespread reactions on social media after sharing that her husband closely monitors her weight, even though she gave birth just six weeks ago.
Her post, which has since gone viral, sparked concern among many social media users, with some questioning whether the pressure she described was appropriate for a woman still recovering from childbirth and breastfeeding.
In her post, the woman recounted that her husband’s concern about her weight began long before they got married.
According to her, while they were still dating, he insisted on seeing photographs of her mother and siblings. Curious about his unusual request, she eventually showed him the pictures.
She said her husband became excited after seeing that her mother and sisters were all slim.
Explaining his reaction, he reportedly told her that because the women in her family were not overweight, he believed she would also remain slim after marriage and childbirth.
Recalling the incident, she wrote that she initially dismissed his comment and even joked to herself that she was not interested in marrying him at the time.
However, the couple eventually got married and recently welcomed their first child.
The woman revealed that six weeks after giving birth, her husband has continued to remind her about her body size, warning her against gaining too much weight.
Sharing one of their recent conversations, she wrote:
“The way my husband is scared of me getting fat eh.
Yesterday he reminded me that I’m adding too much o, I should reduce the way I eat.
My response: Oga, I dey omugwo o, and your baby dey suck me dry, please allow me joor.”
She explained that she is currently observing the traditional postpartum care period, commonly known as omugwo, during which new mothers receive extra care, nourishment and support while recovering from childbirth and breastfeeding.
The woman added that despite her husband’s repeated comments, she viewed the situation humorously rather than as a serious marital problem.
As her post gained widespread attention, many social media users expressed concern for her wellbeing, arguing that a woman who recently gave birth should be allowed to recover without pressure over her appearance.
Others criticized the husband for focusing on his wife’s body just weeks after childbirth, noting that postpartum weight changes are normal and that breastfeeding mothers often require additional nutrition.
However, not everyone interpreted the situation the same way, with some suggesting the husband may simply be expressing concern about maintaining a healthy lifestyle, although many maintained that the timing of his comments was inappropriate.
Following the backlash, the woman returned to social media with a follow-up post, appearing to mock those who had urged her to take the matter more seriously.
She sarcastically questioned whether she was expected to leave her marriage simply because her husband keeps an eye on her weight.
Her response further fueled debate online, with opinions divided between those who viewed the husband’s behaviour as controlling and those who believed the couple’s interactions reflected a private understanding between spouses that outsiders should not be quick to judge.

As her post gained traction and sparked backlash, the woman shared a follow-up post trolling those expressing concern for her, by asking them if she should leave her marriage just because her husband is monitoring her weight.
