Woman Left With Severe Facial Deformity After Cosmetic Jaw Surgery in China

A 24-year-old woman in China has been left with severe facial deformity after undergoing cosmetic jaw surgery that reportedly went terribly wrong.

According to Chinese media, the woman, identified only as “Victim A,” visited Wuhan University Dental Hospital in Wuhan to correct a minor 2mm jaw protrusion.

However, instead of making the small adjustment she requested, doctors allegedly pushed her jaw forward by more than 13mm, leaving her with serious facial deformity.

The procedure also reportedly caused other complications.

A metal needle punctured one of her tooth roots, while her nasal septum was twisted, making it difficult for her to breathe through her nose.

Medical experts who reviewed the case said the surgery appeared to be the exact opposite of what had been planned.

They noted that instead of a 2mm jaw retraction, the operation pushed the jaw outward by more than 13mm.

Despite the outcome, the lead surgeon reportedly claimed the woman’s face had “become more Western and stylish than before.”

The woman is said to have paid more than $55,000 for the surgery.

Experts estimate that repairing the damage will take at least five years and cost more than $200,000.

They also stated that the woman’s original jaw condition was minor and could have been corrected with orthodontic treatment instead of surgery.

Following widespread public attention, the hospital agreed to refund the cost of the procedure.

Health authorities have since launched an investigation into the case, which is expected to lead to legal action.
