Wolves Forced To Cancel Training After Nigerian Striker Tolu Arokodare Refuses To Leave The Pitch

Championship club Wolverhampton Wanderers reportedly cancelled a scheduled training session after Nigerian striker Tolu Arokodare refused to leave the training pitch, with additional security later deployed to prevent him from returning to the club’s training ground.

According to Mirror UK, the incident occurred on Monday, July 21, creating an unexpected disruption at the club’s training base. The following day, extra security personnel were reportedly stationed at the facility to ensure the 25-year-old forward did not gain access while the situation was being addressed.

The development comes only weeks into the tenure of new Wolves manager César Peixoto, who was appointed following the dismissal of Rob Edwards after the club suffered relegation from the Premier League. Wolves endured a disastrous 2025/26 campaign, finishing bottom of the table and dropping into the Championship.

Arokodare was among the players involved in the disappointing season, scoring just three Premier League goals in 33 appearances. Across all competitions, he managed six goals in 38 matches, a return that fell well below expectations following his high-profile arrival.

The Nigerian international joined Wolves last summer in a deal reportedly worth around £24 million, but he has struggled to establish himself as a consistent goalscorer. Club officials are now believed to have decided that he is no longer part of their long-term plans.

The striker has been strongly linked with a move away from Molineux during the current transfer window, with Italian Serie A side Fiorentina and Turkish club Trabzonspor among the teams reportedly interested in securing his signature. Reports suggest Arokodare would prefer a move to Italy if he leaves Wolves this summer.

Neither the club nor the player has publicly commented on the reported training ground incident.

Wolves are expected to make their first public appearance under Peixoto on Wednesday evening when they take on Maidenhead United in a pre-season friendly, as preparations continue for their Championship campaign.
