Why Americans Are Rushing for Indian Mangoes
Indian mango varieties — Alphonso from Maharashtra, Kesar from Gujarat, Chausa, Langra, and Banganapalli — are prized for their intense sweetness, rich flavor, and aromatic profile. Devotees dismiss the Mexican mangoes dominating US grocery stores as tasting like “raw potato.” A box of 10-12 Indian mangoes now sells for $50 to $60, up from last year due to tariff concerns and rising airfreight costs linked to the Iran conflict.
