“Who Will Take Care Of Me Now?” — Paul Yandoh Laments Chairman Wontumi’s 20-Year Sentence

Paul Yandoh, the Ashanti Regional Communications Director of the New Patriotic Party, has spoken emotionally about the 20-year prison sentence handed to Chairman Wontumi, describing personal financial dependence on the NPP stalwart and insisting the conviction was unjust.

“I have been crying since yesterday. Chairman Wontumi was the one taking care of me after my finances fell apart. Now that he has been incarcerated, who will take care of me? He was sentenced for a crime he never committed,” he said during an interview on Asempa FM.

The comments continue a pattern of highly public, emotional advocacy Yandoh has maintained for Chairman Wontumi throughout his legal troubles, dating back to Bernard Antwi-Boasiako’s initial arrest by the Economic and Organised Crime Office in May 2025.

Paul Yandoh previously camped outside EOCO’s offices for days, alleged Wontumi was subjected to inhumane treatment in custody, and made a widely covered on-air appeal urging President Mahama to intervene and prevent Wontumi’s imprisonment.

Chairman Wontumi was convicted on all counts in the Samreboi illegal mining case and sentenced by the High Court’s Criminal Court 4 Division to 20 years’ imprisonment with hard labour.

The NPP has maintained the conviction lacked sufficient evidence and has signalled plans to appeal.
