Alan Ritchson’s criticism of the Trump administration’s handling of the Jeffrey Epstein files quickly drew an official response from the White House after the actor questioned why more information had not been released.

A White House spokesperson responded for President Trump, saying he had been “totally exonerated” in the case of Epstein, but that the administration has “provided documents, complied with congressional requests, and will continue to examine the matter further.

The statement also drew attention to Democratic officials, who claimed that Trump had done more for Epstein’s victims than any other administration, per Entertainment Weekly.

The exchange turned the actor’s podcast remarks into a broader political flashpoint, with both sides standing firmly behind their positions as debate over the Epstein files continued.

Speaking Out Instead Of Staying Silent

The actor made it clear that he has no interest in holding back his opinions, arguing that too many people stay quiet despite sharing similar concerns.

During the interview on the “Happy Sad Confused” podcast, he said he has never understood why others are afraid to challenge powerful figures when they believe something is wrong.

Ritchson also voiced frustration over the government’s handling of the Epstein investigation, saying the files should be released so those responsible can be held accountable.

While acknowledging that his outspoken views often worry his publicist, he insisted that speaking up about injustice matters more than protecting his public image.

He added that his passion for politics comes from wanting to stand up for people he believes are overlooked, explaining that his views are rooted in fairness rather than partisan loyalty.

Even prior to his recent comments on the Epstein files, Ritchson has been at the heart of another political controversy for criticizing Trump and talking about the connection between Christianity and politics in an interview.

His remarks sparked an instant reaction from fans, some praising his honesty while others criticized it. Others, however, swore they would cease to back him. The fallout revealed the “severely polarized reactions” to the actor’s political beliefs, Forbes reported.

The “Reacher” actor, however, stepped up his rebuttal to the criticism. He said that he believes one shouldn’t have their faith based on political allegiances but on compassion and that his candor may incur an individual and professional price.

As the controversy unfolded, reports circulated claiming Ritchson had responded on X to address the criticism. However, the actor later clarified on Instagram that he does not have a Twitter/X account, indicating those reports were inaccurate.

Trump’s popularity has been put to the test once again with new polling data indicating a drop in his approval ratings before the midterm elections. The report attributed the drop to escalating opposition among voters to a variety of grievances such as the economy and the way the government has handled the standoff with Iran.

The Blast reported that a Washington Post-Ipsos poll placed Trump’s overall job approval at 37%, with 61% of respondents saying they disapproved of his performance. The survey also found support softening among Republican-leaning independents, while independent voters remained overwhelmingly critical of the president’s leadership.

The report also noted issues outside the U.S., as the results of polling showed that America was losing ground to China in many countries around the world. Even as Trump recently emphasized security and foreign interference, critics said the efforts are ineffective so far in trying to turn the tide of concern.

Away from the political headlines, Ritchson has also been celebrating one of the biggest professional moments of his career.

After Netflix confirmed that “War Machine” would receive a sequel, the actor thanked fans and the creative team for helping transform the film into a global success, describing the project as a dream that had grown far beyond what he imagined.

Ritchson also expressed gratitude to director Patrick Hughes, Lionsgate, Netflix, and the cast and crew, saying he felt fortunate to bring the character to life and promising that the franchise was “just getting started.”

The sequel announcement followed the film’s massive streaming success. At the same time, the actor was also recently cleared of wrongdoing after police determined he acted in self-defense during a neighborhood altercation. The publication also reported that he declined to pursue charges against his neighbor.

As both sides stand by their positions, what comes next for Alan Ritchson and Donald Trump in this increasingly public clash?
