While They Were Doing Primaries in NDC, Peter Obi Was in a Hotel Writing Names Of Nominees –Okonkwo
According to an interview on Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily, Okonkwo accused some leaders within the Labour Party of undermining the democratic process during the party’s candidate selection exercise.
He said: “While they were doing primaries, Peter Obi was in a hotel writing the list of candidates that will win the primaries.”
Okonkwo claimed that the alleged incident took place at the John Wood Hotel, where he said lists of preferred candidates were being compiled for submission to the party.
According to him, the allegation was brought to his attention by a House of Representatives aspirant who reportedly expressed disappointment after investing time, resources, and effort into a process he believed would be transparent and competitive.
The lawyer argued that such actions, if true, would undermine the credibility of internal party democracy and discourage aspiring politicians from participating in future electoral contests.
Beyond the issue of party primaries, Okonkwo also criticized the broader state of opposition politics in Nigeria, alleging that internal disputes and a lack of transparency have weakened efforts to build a strong alternative political movement.
His remarks formed part of a wider discussion on governance, national security, and political reforms during the television interview.
The allegations have generated attention because they touch on the integrity of party primaries, which remain a critical component of Nigeria’s democratic process.
As of the interview, the claims remained Okonkwo’s account of events and were presented as part of his criticism of the party’s internal operations.
