We Will Shut Down Any Mosque Found To Be Delivering Sermons That Incite The Public–Bago

According to a report by Daily Post Thursday, July 23, 2026, Niger State Governor, Umaru Mohammed Bago, has called on members of the Fulani community to work closely with security agencies in the fight against insecurity, stressing that the activities of armed criminals are negatively affecting the reputation and public image of the community.

The governor made the appeal while addressing members of the community in Minna on July 18, urging them to support efforts aimed at restoring peace and security across the state.

Bago said the government could not tackle insecurity effectively without the cooperation and support of communities across Niger State.

He therefore urged members of the Fulani community to provide useful information to security personnel and assist authorities in identifying individuals involved in criminal activities.

According to him, collective efforts and cooperation with security agencies remain important in addressing threats posed by armed criminals.

The governor expressed concern that the activities of individuals involved in banditry and other forms of criminality were creating a negative perception of the Fulani community.

He maintained that the actions of armed criminals should not be allowed to define the identity of an entire community, stressing the need for responsible members to distance themselves from those involved in violent and unlawful activities.

He also called on members of the community to play an active role in promoting peace and stability in their various areas.

Bago encouraged them to cooperate with government authorities and security agencies whenever they have information that could assist in preventing criminal activities.

He said the government remained committed to taking necessary measures to address insecurity and protect residents across the state.

The governor further warned religious leaders and places of worship against using their platforms to deliver sermons capable of causing tension or encouraging hostility among members of the public.

He said the government would not tolerate religious preaching that could inflame passions or undermine efforts to maintain peace and order in Niger State.

Bago said the state government would take decisive measures against any place of worship found to be promoting inflammatory preaching.

He stressed that religious institutions should contribute to peace and unity rather than encourage messages capable of causing division or provoking violence.

The governor said the government would continue to monitor such activities and act where necessary to prevent the spread of inciting messages.
