“Voting Did Not Take Place In Some Areas, Yet Numbers Were Recorded” — Adelabu

Former Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, has raised concerns over alleged irregularities during the All Progressives Congress (APC) gubernatorial primary election, threatening to submit a formal petition against the conduct of the exercise in several areas.

Speaking after observing the primary process in his ward, Adelabu said he was pleased with the conduct of voting in the area he personally monitored but alleged that reports from other wards painted a different picture.

According to him, there were widespread complaints of misconduct across multiple wards and zones, including claims that voting started before the officially scheduled time, while in some areas results were allegedly written without proper accreditation or participation by party members.

The former minister further alleged that some APC members and supporters were intimidated, chased away from polling locations, and prevented from casting their votes during the exercise.

He also claimed that in certain wards, no voting reportedly took place despite figures allegedly being recorded and announced.

Adelabu described the reported incidents as dangerous for Nigeria’s democratic process, stressing that internal party elections should be conducted transparently and fairly to maintain confidence among party members and the public.

He stated that his camp was compiling reports from across the five zones and would file what he described as a “serious petition” over the alleged infractions.

The APC gubernatorial primary has attracted significant attention, with party stakeholders closely monitoring the process ahead of the next governorship election.

As of the time of filing this report, party officials had yet to officially respond to Adelabu’s allegations.
