Vim Lady Urges Ghanaians Not to Politicise Abu Trica’s Extradition Case

Media personality Afia Pokua, popularly known as Vim Lady, has urged Ghanaians to avoid linking the extradition case involving social media personality Abu Trica to politics.

In a social media post, Vim Lady said extradition processes are based on international legal agreements and not political decisions.

“To be fair, don’t blame President Mahama or the opposition or others for Abu Trica’s extradition; it is a purely legal matter,” she said.

She explained that Ghana has extradition agreements with countries including the United States and the United Kingdom, which allow suspects accused of crimes to be transferred between jurisdictions.

According to her, just as Ghana can request the return of people accused of crimes against Ghanaians who flee abroad, other countries also have the right to seek the extradition of Ghanaian nationals accused of offences committed within their territories.

“Recently, we extradited the former MASLOC woman, so it is strictly a legal matter. No one should say, ‘Because of Abu Trica, I won’t vote for this party.’ You have a right to vote for whoever you want, but don’t say because of Abu Trica. It’s not fair,” she stated.

Vim Lady also mentioned that Ghana has a prisoner transfer agreement with the United States, recalling that during President John Dramani Mahama’s first administration, Ghana accepted two former Guantanamo Bay detainees under a bilateral arrangement.

She maintained that extradition and prisoner transfer agreements are based on legal frameworks and international cooperation, rather than political interests.

“So, let’s not make this a political matter. These are simply international legal agreements,” she said.
