Troops rescue four kidnap victims in Katsina

Troops of the Nigerian Army have successfully rescued four kidnapped individuals during a coordinated counter-banditry operation in Katsina state.

The rescue followed a targeted military offensive against a criminal group allegedly led by notorious bandit commander Kachalla Muhammadu Fulani, whose network has been linked to several security incidents in the region.

According to the Army, the operation was preceded by extensive intelligence gathering and aerial surveillance conducted by the Air Component of Operation FANSAN YAMMA. The surveillance missions enabled security forces to identify the location of the terrorists’ hideout and plan a precise assault on the camp.

Armed with the intelligence obtained, ground troops advanced on the enclave and engaged the criminals in a fierce confrontation. Faced with sustained military pressure and superior firepower, the terrorists reportedly fled the area in disarray.

During a follow-up search of the abandoned camp, soldiers discovered and rescued four abducted victims who had been left behind by the fleeing criminals.

The victims were immediately evacuated to the Forward Operating Base in Matazu, where they received medical attention and necessary support following their ordeal.

They were later received by the General Officer Commanding 8 Division and Commander of Sector 2, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, Major General B.P. Koughna.

Addressing the rescued victims, the senior military officer assured them of their safety and reiterated the Army’s commitment to sustaining operations aimed at dismantling criminal networks and restoring lasting peace across Katsina State and other affected communities.

The latest rescue operation forms part of ongoing efforts by security forces to combat banditry, kidnapping and other violent crimes in the North-West region.
