Troops of Nigerian Army on Friday foiled plot by foiled by Boko Haram/ISWAP terrorists to abduct 31 people from four vehicles along the Buratai-Kamuya Road in Biu Local Government Area of Borno State.
According to report, the terrorists had at about 3:45pm on Friday, July 31, 2026, intercepted the four civilian vehicles and abducted their occupants.
The troop responded swiftly after detecting the terrorists through real-time surveillance systems and deployed a Quick Response Force to pursue the attackers, according to a statement issued by the Acting Military Information Officer, Headquarters Joint Task Force, North East Operation Hadin Kai, Captain Mohammed Goni
The troops engaged the terrorists with effective firepower, forcing them to abandon the abducted civilians and the four vehicles before fleeing into the surrounding bush.
The troops, according to the statement, also recovered motorcycles abandoned by the fleeing terrorists.
Goni said all the 31 civilians were rescued unharmed, while the four civilian vehicles were recovered intact.
Following the successful rescue, the troops dominated the area and conducted further exploitation to prevent the terrorists from regrouping.
He added that the rescued civilians and recovered vehicles were subsequently escorted to Buratai, where the victims were allowed to continue their journey in their vehicles.
The Joint Task Force said the operation demonstrated the effectiveness of intelligence-driven military operations in protecting civilians and disrupting terrorist activities.
It added that the operation was in demonstration of the resolve of the Nigerian Army to sustain aggressive operations aimed at eliminating remnants of terrorist groups while securing communities and major lines of communication across the North-East theatre.
