Travis Kelce shares first details from his wedding to Taylor Swift
Kansas City Chiefs star Travis Kelce has spoken publicly for the first time about his wedding to pop superstar Taylor Swift, describing it as the “best night of my life”.
Kelce and Swift married on 3 July at Madison Square Garden in New York City during a star-studded but tightly guarded ceremony.
Speaking at the Chiefs’ training camp in Missouri, the 36-year-old thanked those who celebrated with the couple and described the wedding as a “crazy night” filled with celebration. Reuters
Kelce said getting married at Madison Square Garden fulfilled his childhood dream of experiencing an important moment inside the iconic sporting venue.
“It was kind of cool to live out my childhood dream of being in that venue, the mecca of all sports venues,” he said.
He thanked the arena’s owners for helping the couple hold the private event, adding that everything about the ceremony was perfect.
Kelce also joked that the arena’s air conditioning “was cooking”, apparently referring to the heatwave that struck the United States during the Independence Day weekend.
Actor and comedian Adam Sandler officiated the wedding, which attracted celebrities including Hugh Grant, Jason Sudeikis, Benson Boone and Gigi Hadid.
Despite the attention surrounding the couple, no official photographs from inside the ceremony have been released.
The event was shrouded in secrecy even as security measures disrupted parts of New York City and celebrities were photographed arriving at the venue.
Large screens outside Madison Square Garden later confirmed that the couple had married.
Kelce also publicly referred to Swift as his wife for the first time while explaining that he missed an opportunity to watch the New York Knicks during their successful playoff run because he was attending a Chiefs mini-camp.
Swift attended Game Four of the NBA Finals, where the Knicks defeated the San Antonio Spurs 107–106 after overturning a 29-point deficit.
The Knicks eventually defeated the Spurs to claim their first NBA championship since 1973.
Kelce said he enjoyed his eventful off-season but was now focused on returning to American football.
The three-time Super Bowl champion is preparing for his 14th NFL season after the Chiefs missed the playoffs last year for the first time since 2014.
Although speculation continues that the coming season could be his last, Kelce has not announced any retirement plans.
“I have still got a lot of love for this game,” he said.
“I want to go out there and prove to myself that I can play at a better level than I did last year.”
